Q. Can Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film be used on open skin?
A. Yes, it can, because it is non-stinging and non-cytotoxic (meaning it will not interfere with healing)
Q. Can I use other products with Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film?
A. Avoid the use of ointments, creams, lotions or pastes, as they may significantly reduce the film’s effectiveness.
Q. Do I need to remove Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film?
A. Removal is not necessary. Build-up of the film may look like white scaling, but it not harmful. If desired, the film may be removed with a gentle medical adhesive remover. Vigorous scrubbing when removing the film should be avoided as this may cause skin damage. When Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film is used under an adhesive product (such as your ostomy device), it is removed along with the product.

Application and Removal

How to apply 3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film
- Ensure that the skin around your stoma is clean and dry
- Wipe (code 3344E) – apply an even coat of film to the skin around your stoma site
- Spray (code 3346E) – hold the spray about 10-15 cm away from your skin. Spray a smooth, even coating.
- Allow the area to dry for 30 seconds
How often should Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film be re-applied?
- Re-apply after every pouch change
Notes
- Avoid using ointments or creams as they will prevent Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film from working properly
- Applying too many layers will make the skin feel stiff
